10/22/17 Weekly Call to Action

Each week, we'll gather the week's most relevant advocacy actions, legislation, and events so that we can target our actions to have the most impact. We'll bring in happenings at the local, state, and national level from several sources so you can have a one-stop shop for your information and advocacy actions. If you come across an item to include in an upcoming Call to Action post, please send us a link through the Contact form on this site. Thanks for your advocacy!!

Because you defeated healthcare, the primary legislative goal of the GOP, Republicans feel a lot of pressure to pass their tax scam. Their millionaire and billionaire donors are begging for it. Steve Bannon has declared war on “establishment” Republicans. The stakes are high. Lindsay Graham says if they don’t pass tax cuts for the wealthy “that will be the end of us {Republicans} as a party.”

To that, we say: GAME. ON.

  2. School Board Elections Matter

State Actions this Week

1. TAX 'REFORM' GUTS HEALTHCARE Senator Gardner voted on a budget resolution that will pave the way to a vote on the TrumpTaxScam, but this fight is far from over.  The tax "reform" package will slash TRILLIONS from Medicaid and Medicare, with cut far deeper than the summer's repeal efforts. TODAY and every day, hold Gardner accountable for his Yes vote on the budget resolution, and tell him that his tax plan hurts our healthcare system. Support the bipartisan Alexander-Murray healthcare bill by telling ALL your members of congress that you expect them to work in a bipartisan manner on things as big as healthcare. Also, Tr*mp just slammed the bill, so RESIST.

First of all, check your local groups for school board and city council forums, canvassing, and phone banking. There are events for JeffCo, Aurora, Denver, etc.

National Actions this Week- From our National Indivisible Coalition in Washington, D.C.

1. The #TrumpTaxScam is here. Last week Republicans in the Senate passed their budget resolution paving the way for tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires. And the House is poised to vote this upcoming week. But we can stop them. Visit www.trumptaxscam.org to find call scripts and contact information for your Members of Congress.

2. Alexander-Murray needs improvement. Senators Alexander (R-TN) and Murray (D-WA) have finalized a bipartisan deal that would help stabilize the ACA’s marketplaces. The deal isn't perfect, but it's far better than Trump's unchecked sabotage of the ACA and open enrollment. Tell your MoCs that the only acceptable changes to Alexander-Murray are those that would make it stronger.

3. 9 million kids are still at risk of losing CHIP. It’s hard to believe, but Congress still hasn’t reauthorized funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which 9 million kids rely on. Use our resource to tell your MoCs to do their job and fund the program.

4. Tell your MoCs to take the DREAMer Pledge. What is the DREAMer Pledge? It’s simple: If you have a Republican MoC, ask that they commit to supporting a CLEAN Dream Act. If you have a Democratic MoC, ask that they publicly commit to voting against a December spending bill unless it contains a clean DREAM Act. See our resource for more info.
