10/29/17 Weekly Call to Action

Each week, we'll gather the week's most relevant advocacy actions, legislation, and events so that we can target our actions to have the most impact. We'll bring in happenings at the local, state, and national level from several sources so you can have a one-stop shop for your information and advocacy actions. If you come across an item to include in an upcoming Call to Action post, please send us a link through the Contact form on this site. Thanks for your advocacy!!

Republicans have completed Phase 1 of their #TrumpTaxScam. The tax fight and the healthcare fight are the SAME FIGHT (read why here). And, just like with healthcare, we can defeat them with nationwide constituent power. On your home turf. On the phone. In DC.

Your voice can shape this fight.

Calls to Action- Do These Things!

Local Actions this Week

    • Have you received your ballot? Post pics online and share them far and wide (yes, it's legal). Do your research on the candidates in your district at ifrr.wiki. Phone bank and canvass for your candidates. Encourage others to vote by continuing to talk about election time. http://www.justvotecolorado.org/ is a great resources for voting information. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO THIS WEEK

    • Be an INFORMED VOTER. Know what your City Council candidates’ positions are on oil and gas, affordable housing, sanctuary cities, development, homelessness, and more. Know how your School Board candidates’ positions will have an impact on your neighborhood schools and who is donating major money to their campaigns. This site will be invaluable in your research: https://indivisiblefrr.org/wiki/index.php?title=Colorado_elections_project

    • Be an INVOLVED VOTER: Commit to volunteering for your favorite candidate 3 TIMES between now and November 7th.

    • Be a PROUD VOTER: Go to www.facebook.com/profilepicframes, then click your profile picture.  Search for a frame by entering the words “I'm registered are you?” Choose from 2 "I'm registered are you?" frames. You have the option to make this temporary or permanent.  Click Use as Profile Picture.

  2. School Board Elections Matter

State Actions this Week

In case people get confused by our current president’s nonsense about the flag, let’s remind the world #WhyWeKneel. Join us Saturday at 3:00 in Denver’s Civic Center Park to Say Their Names. This is an important act of solidarity and allyship. We hope to see many of you there!

2. Be Ready to STOP the Tax Scam.

Republicans have passed a budget resolution in both the House and Senate and unlocked the special reconciliation process in the Senate, which allows them to pass the Trump Tax Scam with only 51 votes.  But that was just the first step. Here’s what we expect next:

...Finalize the text of the Trump Tax Scam (legislative text released 11/1)...
...Hold a mark-up in the House Ways & Means Committee (week of 11/6)...
...Pass it through both the House (sometime before Thanksgiving) and the Senate (sometime after Thanksgiving but before the New Year)

National Actions this Week- From our National Indivisible Coalition in Washington, D.C.

Seems like everyone is buzzing about the first indictment being filed in Mueller investigation. No matter who it is or what it’s for, this investigation promises to be a long one, and we can’t count on the results “saving” us. BUT we must be prepared if Trump tries to interfere with the investigation by firing Mueller. This will be the easiest action you take all week, just sign up for our rapid response network here:

2. National Week of Action to defeat the #TrumpTaxScam, 11/6 to 11/10:

Republicans will mark their tax bill up in the House the week of November 6. At the same time, Indivisible Groups across the country are coordinating a National Week of home turf events to put hard, consistent pressure on their MoCs from the get-go.  Stay tuned for next week's actions on this!

3. Congress must fund CHIP. 9 million children rely on the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), a federal-state partnership where the federal government provides most -- or in some cases, all -- of the funding necessary to cover uninsured children. No one thought Congress would let CHIP funding expire on September 30, but the Republicans were so busy trying to repeal Obamacare and that’s exactly what happened. Use our CHIP explainer and call scripts to contact your MoCs to demand that they pass a clean CHIP reauthorization bill.
