10/1/17 Weekly Call to Action
Each week, we'll gather the week's most relevant advocacy actions, legislation, and events so that we can target our actions to have the most impact. We'll bring in happenings at the local, state, and national level from several sources so you can have a one-stop shop for your information and advocacy actions. If you come across an item to include in an upcoming Call to Action post, please send us a link through the Contact form on this site. Thanks for your advocacy!!
Top Priority: PUERTO RICO is in the midst of a humanitarian crisis. Give what you can to support them this week. Two good donation sites: https://hispanicfederation.org/donate/ and https://www.directrelief.org/
Also, congrats on the huge, historic win against TrumpCare. To be sure, Republicans may keep trying to resurrect the bill, so we have to remain vigilant. But you stopped Trump’s #1 policy priority.
Thank you, as always, for Standing Indivisible with us.

National Actions this Week- From our National Indivisible Coalition in Washington, D.C.
THE TR*MP BUDGET DRAFT is out, and it dramatically favors the top 1%, while it actually predicts an increase in taxes for the lowest earners. Call your House rep and both senators and tell them: TRICKLE DOWN DOESN’T WORK. Here’s some detail on the tax plan: http://www.denverpost.com/2017/09/29/donald-trump-gop-tax-plan-richest-gain-most/ (numbers below for calling your senators
Congress must pass an emergency relief package for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is unconscionable that our government has failed to give the people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands (U.S. Citizens!) the same attention as it did the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Ask your Member of Congress to provide an emergency relief package for the victims of Hurricane Maria and permanently rescind the Jones Act, an antiquated law that has made it difficult for supplies to reach the Island of Puerto Rico.
THE DREAM ACT must be passed clean (no funding for a border wall) and with all possible haste. Call your House rep and both senators to ask them to get on that NOW.
THE CHIP PROGRAM EXPIRED this weekend, leaving 9 million children in doubt as to whether their government values them. The CHIP program provides healthcare for these children. It’s a TRAVESTY that it expired. States can continue with the program temporarily, but we must be LOUD about making sure this program is re-funded for another five years. Call your House rep and both senators and tell them to hustle and renew the CHIP program. (numbers below)
