Summary of 1.29.17 Indivisible Team Action Call

With the Friday EO from the White House banning persons with visas from select countries being allowed into the US, we saw serious violations of constitutional rights. Many people all over our country came out in great numbers to protest this EO at various airports. The Indivisible Team ended up having an Emergency Call on this matter, and we captured the slides they presented.

They were joined by the following organizations on this call:

  • Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAAJ)
  • American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
  • International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP)
  • National Immigration Law Center (NILC-IJF)

Here was the agenda for the call:

The basics of the EO:

We have all read many different articles on individuals that were detained and turned away. Some had aided our military, some were coming for life saving medical procedures, and others were simply trying to reconnect with their loved ones whom they had been separated from.

The ACLU was able to successfully get two Injunctions to block the EO. They felt the Tootkaboni v. Trump case would have some activity prior to the Feb 5 deadline.

*While on the call, it was announced that Sally Yates was let go as acting AG based on her refusal to support the EO.

This is a time that we must stay vigilant in educating ourselves with what is going on. Especially when you combine ALL the EO's that relate to immigration.

The two main actions that came out of the call that we as constituents can do, is to call our senators and demand they enact the two actions below: 1) Withhold Consent - to pause senate business and 2) Filibuster all items on the docket until this ban is lifted and rescinded. Call your senators this week and demand these two actions.

We wanted to apologize for the delay in getting this information out. Due to scheduling conflicts (traveling out of state), it was difficult to get this finalized. Once we have our planning meeting on February 4th, we will have systems in place to make sure information is released in a more timely manner.

Thanks for all your support!

The Indivisible Boulder Team
