2/11/19 Weekly Call to Action

From IFRR: This week, Denver's teachers will strike for livable wages and we support them. Also this week, there's legislation to FINALLY ban conversation therapy in CO. We're also gearing up to fight against the money and special interest power of Oil and Gas, as lawmakers prepare to finally address pressing health and safety issues like fracking and setbacks. Finally, we need to call our house rep and Senators Bennet and Gardner to tell them NO wall funding and to support the Green New Deal.

* And every week...be sure to check out our Events Calendar often, as we add events daily to it.*

Call to Action - Do these things!

Local Actions

  • City Council Meetings coming up:

    • Feb 19: Next City Council Meeting 6pm

  • View 2/5 City Council Meeting - You can see the recording of the last meeting HERE.

State Actions

Monday, Feb 11, 2PM: Rally at the Capitol in support of Denver's teachers
Join us as we rally at the Capitol in our fight for fair, transparent pay that prioritizes students, families, and educator retention in DPS.(https://www.facebook.com/events/304048663791624/)

  • Wednesday, Feb 13: Support the ban on gay conversion therapy for minors - FINALLY Call members of the Colorado Public Health Care & Human Services Committee to encourage a YES vote on this house bill. The bill prohibits a licensed physician specializing in psychiatry or a licensed, certified, or registered mental health care provider from engaging in conversion therapy with a patient under 18 years of age. Get committee member contact info here.

  • Put Oil and Gas on Notice! We need all bodies, email fingers, and phone hands on deck if we expect to see real health and safety measures in our state with regard to encroaching oil and gas operations. So, we've created an email list where you can be alerted to local actions each week - rallies, hearings, phone/email writing campaigns, and floor votes - to mobilize for the safety of our children, homes, climate, and future. We can beat Colorado’s Oil & Gas industry by making sure our state lawmakers know exactly where we stand.

  • Call your house rep and Senators Bennet and Gardner: Support the GREEN NEW DEAL Contact your federal Members of Congress (MOC), especially if your MoC is DeGette, Perlmutter, or Crow (Neguse has already signed on) and tell them to co-sponsor the resolution in support of a Green New Deal aimed at decarbonizing the economy and reducing and capturing greenhouse gases. >> Get more information and talking points here.

  • Call Senators Bennet and Gardner: NO WALL FUNDING. Yeah, again. Threat of a second shutdown looms this Friday, Feb 15. NO WALL MONEY.
