Federal Actions (from Indivisible National)

Congressional Democrats continue to exercise their oversight authority to ensure that Trump can’t escape accountability. Just last week, House Judiciary chairman Nadler authorized subpoenas to get the full Mueller report and House Ways and Means chairman Neal requested six years of Trump’s personal and business tax returns. Even if there are extended legal battles over each of these, it’s clear that this is what the Blue Wave did: it gave us the power to hold Trump accountable in a way that the Republicans refused to.

There was another major win in Congress last week: a bipartisan majority in the House voted to end our involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen, and the resolution will now head to Trump’s desk (where he is expected to veto it). This is a historic vote. It is the first time that Congress has ever used its power under the War Powers Resolution to withdraw the US from an unauthorized war, and it’s an important step in checking Trump’s power (along with every future president’s power) to unilaterally commit our country to fight endless, global wars.

Tell your Members of Congress that the full Mueller report must be made public. Call your MoCs and demand they make Mueller’s findings public and continue investigations to hold Trump accountable. We’ve got everything you need to know and a call script here.

Review our Defund Hate resource and call on Congress to stand against Trump’s atrocities at the border. Trump is still committing human rights abuses at the border to try to scare asylum seekers and refugees away. The best way to fight back is to defund Trump’s deportation machine through the appropriations process, and demand major cuts to ICE and CBP’s funding levels.

Read up on the latest attack on the Affordable Care Act. The ACA is still the law of the land, but Trump’s Justice Department is refusing to defend it in a lawsuit being filed by a group of Republican attorneys general. If the courts rule in their favor, tens of millions of people would be at risk of losing their health care coverage or being charged more for coverage due to a pre-existing condition -- and ultimately, this case could go before the Supreme Court.

Your thoughts needed: Do you support impeaching Trump?

With the Justice Department’s intransigence in releasing the full Mueller report, and Congresswoman Tlaib’s recent introduction of a resolution of impeachment, there’s been a renewed discussion in our movement on the topic of impeachment and potential removal of Trump from office.

We know working on impeachment would be no small thing, and we want to make sure we’re hearing from Indivisibles directly on the issue. That’s why we’ve put together a quick survey to collect your thoughts on an impeachment campaign. We’re asking everyone (including group leaders, group members, and general supporters) this month to complete the survey individually. Click here to review the survey and share your thoughts.
