S. 1981: Small Scale LNG Access Act of 2017
Author's Summary: A bill to amend the Natural Gas Act to expedite approval of exports of small volumes of natural gas, and for other purposes.
IB Summary: This bill would declare small-scale exports of liquified natural gas to be "in the public interest." Environmental groups argue that the label "small scale" is a misnomer, and this is one step within a process to expand and expedite exports of methane, production of which has surged in recent years in the US from fracking.
Status: Subcommittee hearing 12/5/2017 (Gardner chairs).
