H.R.1313: Preserving Employee Wellness Programs Act
Author's Summary: To clarify rules relating to nondiscriminatory workplace wellness programs.
IB Summary: According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: "Under the Preserving Employee Wellness Programs Act (HR 1313), people who choose not to disclose genetic information to their employers would be subject to penalties of up to 30 percent of the total cost of the employees' health insurance, resulting in thousands of dollars in increased premium costs. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation strongly opposes the legislation, as it would pressure people with cystic fibrosis into disclosing genetic information to their employer or insurer or face higher health insurance premiums if they refuse."
