H.R.4310: Allow State Sovereignty Upon Refugee Entry (ASSURE) Act

Author's Summary:  To amend section 412(a)(2) of the Immigration and Nationality Act to require ratification of a plan with respect to a refugee by the legislature of a State before the refugee may be initially placed or resettled in the State, and for other purposes.

IB Summary:  According to Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA): " this Administration should spend more time listening to the justifiable concerns of our state governments when it comes to refugee resettlement. At a time when political candidates are talking more and more about transparency, states and local communities are told simply to accept refugees from some pretty dangerous places...Our communities are sick and tired of being dictated to from Washington and this legislation reflects that."

Status:   Introduced in House on 12/13/2017. Referred to the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security.
