H.R.4340: American LAWS Act

Author's Summary:  To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to eliminate the diversity immigrant program, to focus family-sponsored immigration on spouses and minor children, and make mandatory and permanent requirements relating to use of an electronic employment eligibility verification system.

IB Summary:  According to Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA): "It is time to move towards an immigration policy that serves our national interest and puts Americans’ jobs, safety, and sovereignty first...Americans are rightfully concerned that our government is turning a blind eye to ending visa programs that present a clear national security risk, allowing unsustainably high levels of unskilled immigration to persist, and harming U.S. workers by forcing them to compete for jobs with illegal aliens."

Status:   Introduced in House on 12/13/2017. Referred to the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security.
