H.R.4658: Protecting Students from Worthless Degrees Act

Author's Summary:  To provide consumer protections for students.

IB Summary:  According to Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL):"The Protecting Students from Worthless Degree Act would require that all higher education programs meet any federal or state accreditation and licensing requirements necessary for graduates to enter their intended occupation. Institutions failing to properly prepare their students by meeting these requirements would no longer be eligible for federal student financial assistance, including Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, or G.I. Bill benefits."

Status:   Introduced in House on 12/14/2017. Referred to the Committee on Education and the Workforce, and in addition to the Committees on Armed Services, and Veterans' Affairs, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
