H. R. 3020: Border Enforcement Accountability, Oversight, and Community Engagement Act of 2017
Author's Summary: "To increase transparency, accountability, and community engagement within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, provide independent oversight of border security activities, improve training for U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and officers, and for other purposes."
IB's Summary: This is a bi-partisan bill by two Western Representatives introduced several times in past years. According to Rep Pearce, I"t is Congress’s responsibility to ensure the communities along the border region, and the Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents assigned to protect it, have the resources they need to be safe and secure where they live and work. For those who live on the border, a certain level of oversight, as with all areas of the government, is important for the day-to-day interaction CBP has with surrounding communities."
