H.R. 1004: Regulatory Integrity Act of 2017

Author's Summary:  To amend chapter 3 of title 5, United States Code, to require the publication of information relating to pending agency regulatory actions, and for other purposes.

IB Summary:  This bill would force each agency to publicly post online a list and timeline of each rulemaking. It also requires agencies to report every communication about a rule online and prohibits agencies from promoting an agency rulemaking on social media. Proponents claim this adds transparency to federal regulations; opponents argue that the provisions are unnecessary and duplicative and add excessive burden for regulators.

Status:   Passed House on 3/2/17.
