H.R.4811: Securing Our Schools Act of 2018

Author's Summary:  To provide for grants from the Attorney General to local education agencies to purchase and install devices that would allow for the immediate notification of appropriate officials in case of emergency, and for other purposes.

IB Summary:  According to U.S. Representatives Brad Schneider (D-IL) and Mike Bost (R-IL): The bipartisan legislation is supported by law enforcement and educators alike, with endorsements from the National Sheriffs’ Association and the National Education Association. “Every parent should have the confidence when they send their child off to school that he or she will return safely home,” said Schneider. “The bipartisan SOS Act will improve the ability of educators to notify first responders in the event of an emergency to better protect the security of students, teachers, and faculty.
